A lot of us might have been aware
of online shopping since the mid-2000. Some of us may have even tried it
already. Sadly, these online shops were only available in other countries. We
initially, needed to have it ship cross country. Typically, it takes a long
time, weeks most of the time and even should the expensive shipping fee. For
these online users, they online go with this option, whenever what is being
sold on their store is not available in the country. But nowadays, it is
difference since most of us have probably noticed that shopping online is
exponentially becoming popular in the Philippines. This was actually difficult
for online users to accept going a couple of years ago. Frauds and scams happen
most of the time both in online and offline in the Philippines. This made
online transactions unattractive for most local online users. It was usually
local classified ads that were close to an online store, which is actually a
buy and sell industry.
Unintentionally, it helped the
local online mall's arrival in the country. They eventually created a
marketplace community in the local online scene.Back when local online
classifieds didn't exist yet, local online users were unable to buy what they
want to online. It became more of a reference for pricing when they want to buy
something. It changed how online users perceive Internet connection on a more
diverse aspect. These online ads website became an online place for local
online users to buy and sell. The local traffic is actually dealing with third
party resellers and the website itself. Customers usually pay offline when
dealing with third party resellers. Group buying websites also had the same
influence on the local online users. This boosted the preparation of the
Ecommerce industry's arrival in the country.
When they arrived in the country,
local online users already have experience in online dealing. The fact that
local online users have more to gain in online shopping pushed them in trying
online shopping. The local online users found amazing deals on group buy
websites. Prices were way lower that local online users struggled to refuse
their offered deal. Last year, Lazada Philippines arrived in the country. It is
an "Amazon" type of venture present across South East Asia. It is
venture under the Rocket Internet umbrella that is owned by the famous Samwer
brothers. Lazada has very friendly payment methods that helped the Ecommerce
industry to online prominence.
These online payment methods help
customers decide which is more suiting on their payment capabilities. Unlike
conventionally, online stores require only credit card payments online or thru
PayPal. The conventional way of payment is usually tough for local customers
since they don't have any of the mention for online payments. They actually
offered Cash on Delivery or C.O.D. as an alternative payment to their
customers. This single handedly allowed them to tap the untapped market in the
past. This market is actually the majority market in the Philippines. Ecommerce
is now rising with this recently tapped market included in the customer mix.
