We all have our fair share of
getting hooked on using the Internet. It evolved into a shopping platform as
well beyond its usual purpose like getting information, communicating to people
and even entertainment via media streaming online. It is pretty clear that
Internet is already part of our lifestyle. A lot of us even depend on it on
daily basis to make what we do faster and easier. Traditionally, things were
done the harder and demands more energy like when doing shopping. It's always a
good thing if Filipinos have alternative on traditional shopping such as online
shopping. The local consumers get an upper hand since time of availability
won't matter anyone. These consumers are the ones who have unusual lifestyle
since they prefer to do everything at night. These are the customers who work
on graveyard shift.
Traditional malls are usually
closed already by the time they are free. Even if these people want to visit
traditional malls, they can't. Traditional malls are only available during
weekends or holidays. It's way harder for them if compared to people who work
on a normal shift. Good thing they can now rely on online shopping to address
their shopping needs. Most of the businesses are now being put up online.
Actually, this only started last year in the Philippines. Once Lazada arrived
in the country, other online malls followed them. They are one of the first
online stores to grace the local online market. Some South East Asia countries
also have Lazada on their country. The Ecommerce industry had a spike once the
Philippines’ Online Shopping Mall arrived in South East Asia compared to the
previous years.
It's safe to say that they made a
huge impact on the local Ecommerce industry. The local online scene has no
competition so it only made sense to launch it in the country. It's actually
more on how they will convert the online users to become their visitors. Online
payment is a problem for most people it is why it was harder for them to be
lured. The local online users were just hesitant to use their credit card since
it exposes their personal details. What makes it challenging is that majority
of the population are not credit card owners. This has slowed down the growth
of Ecommerce in the Philippines. This doesn't translate for local online users not
being familiar with online payment. We don't give online malls a second chance
since we consider risk and disregard reward right away.
In essence, we just don't trust
dealing with online malls especially for our first time attempt. Most of the
time, we consider them as a scam the minute we see them online. It is what
makes Ecommerce very hard to penetrate for online businesses. It's great that
these Ecommerce issues have been solved by Lazada. An alternative payment
method called Cash on Delivery or C.O.D. was introduced by Lazada. They don't
necessarily require their customers to pay right away only until they received
their order package in real time.
