Ecommerce
as we know it already exist since the early 2000. Although, in the Philippines
or even South East Asia weren’t able to adapt it on their respective countries
at that time since the market wasn’t ready for it, most it only covered western
side of the globe. People are actually thinking back then in the country if it
will ever be available in the country. Sure, some of us may have tried online
shopping as early as the mid 2000 but the availability of Ecommerce in the
local scene wasn’t available yet still. You have to pay bloated shipping fees
since it’s usually on an international rate billing. But for the past couple of
years, people are now seeing the online shopping trend that is continuously
rising in the Philippines. Most of us
never thought the local online market would accept it if we go back two to
three years ago. One reason is that online and offline scams happen to often in
the country. It made online users shy away from even considering online
transaction. Initially, local online users went to top local online classified
websites in the buy and sell industry.
Unintentionally,
it helped the local online mall's arrival in the country. A community of
marketplace was eventually built thanks to these local online classifieds. Buy
and sell was harder online classified wasn't available yet and relied only thru
offline. Users go to these websites mainly to get an idea about market price of
what they want to buy. It paved way for local online users to maximize the
usage of Internet. Various visitors on these kinds of websites go there to buy
and sell. It's very different from Ecommerce since local online users deal with
third party resellers. Third party resellers and buyers usually do offline
transactions. Group buying websites also influenced the local online users.
They help lead the preparation of local online users for the Ecommerce industry
in the Philippines. When they arrived in the country, local online users
already have experience in online dealing. Online shopping to local online
users have more upside than downside.
The
amazing deals offered to customers from group buy websites were very rare.
Their deals were outstanding lower prices that any local online user would have
a hard time refusing. Last year, Lazada Online mall was launched in the
Philippines. It is actually an online mall venture launched across South East
Asia. It is backed by the Samwer brothers and is under the Rocket Internet
umbrella. The Philippines’ Online Shopping Mall influenced the Ecommerce
industry with its various online payment methods. The online payment methods
they offer provide customers to be in control. Online stores conventionally
accept only credit card or PayPal payments. The conventional way of payment is
usually tough for local customers since they don't have any of the mention for
online payments. Local online consumers were introduced with Cash on Delivery
as their alternative payment method online. This payment method helps them to
tap the untapped marketing in the country. It is actually the majority of the
population in the country. It allowed the Ecommerce to grow with these markets
now included.
