There is a rising trend in online in the country, which most
of you may be aware already. Looking back, we barely even use online on a regular
basis unless we have a project in school and need to research. It made
researching easier and way faster. But now, it has evolved into a platform that
actually makes our lives easier than doing research. Although we still use it
for its traditional purpose such as conducting research, but it is now used as
a tool connect online all over the word and just recently to be able shop
online.
Just a couple of years ago, shopping online was a risk to most
of us a couple of years ago. Frauds and scams happen most of the time both in
online and offline in the Philippines. Logically, this made local online users
shy to shy away from online transaction. Local online classified websites were
the preferred websites by local online users when they want to shop. The
arrival of local online malls in the country was actually prepared by these
local online classifieds. The presence of online marketplace grew since their
arrival in the country.
During the time online classifieds were unavailable, local
online users didn't know where to go when they want to buy something online. It
became more of a reference for pricing when they want to buy something. These
allowed online users to stay longer have other purpose in Internet usage. It
became a marketplace for local online users for buying and selling. Ecommerce
was far different from this since its third party resellers who earns or
benefits from it. Offline transactions are done by customers most of the time.
Group buying websites also have this contribution to the local online users.
It helped the customers be prepared in online payment for
the arrival of Ecommerce websites in the country. By the time of Ecommerce
website launching, local online users were already prepared. The risk in online
shopping is way lower than what they could be getting. A lot of convincing
deals was offered by group buy websites which can't be found anywhere. Prices
were way lower that local online users struggled to refuse their offered deal. A
year ago, Lazada Online Store arrived in the country. They are an online
shopping mall venture launched in South East Asia. It is under Rocket Internet
that is owned by the famous Samwer brothers.
By offering various payment methods, Lazada helped the
Ecommerce grow in the country. A lot of online payment methods are available
for customers to make it easier for them. Online stores usually only accept
PayPal or credit card payment from their customers. The conventional way of
online payment is actually hard for most local customers since they don't have either
of the two conventional payment methods online. C.O.D. or Cash on Delivery was
first introduced by local online users. In the Philippines, it allowed the
untapped market to be tapped by them. This market is actually the majority
market in the Philippines. This finally helped the Ecommerce grow by tapping
into these markets as well for online.
