Most
of us have probably noticed that shopping online is exponentially becoming
popular in the Philippines. It's actually surprising to witness since online
shopping is not how it used to dating back two years ago and online users was
never a fan of it. The rate in the Philippines both offline and online is off
the roof in the country. This is why online transactions are not highly trusted
by the local online users in the country. Local online classified ads were the
website closest to Ecommerce but more on the buy and sell industry. Ridiculous
as it may be, but this help prepared the rise of the Ecommerce industry. Their
visitors eventually became a community in the marketplace industry.
The
local audience didn't know were to go if they went to buy something when local
online classifieds still didn’t exist in the country. Mainly it was used for
price comparison for items they are planning to buy this eventually helped
revolutionize on how online users behave for shopping ideas. These online ads
website became an online place for local online users to buy and sell.
Ecommerce was far different from this since its third party resellers who earns
or benefits from it. Third party resellers and buyers usually do offline
transactions. It's the same concept with group buying websites. They showed the
steps for the arrival of the Ecommerce industry. By the time Ecommerce arrived
in the country, local online users are somewhat familiar in doing transactions
online. The reward was too high for customers that they can discount the risk.
Customers
who experience shopping on group buys websites found deals that can only be
found on group buy deals. Their offered deal was at rock bottom price that it
made local online users not to miss out on their deals. Lazada Philippines was
launched in the country last year. It is an "Amazon" type of venture
present across South East Asia. It is under Rocket Internet that is owned by
the famous Samwer brothers. The Philippines’ Online Shopping Mall influenced
the Ecommerce industry with its various online payment methods. Their payment
methods featured different payments that allow online customers, which suit
them, best. Online malls usually only allow credit card or PayPal as the
accepted form of payment in online.
However,
with these payment methods alone, it limits the customers in making a transaction
with online stores. They first introduced Cash on Delivery or C.O.D. to the
local online users. This allowed them to tap the untapped markets, which are
the non-credit cardholders or PayPal account users. The majority markets are
these customers who are unable to pay online the conventional way. Now that it
has been tapped, it allowed the Ecommerce industry to further grow. It’s only a
matter of time before online shopping becomes part of the Filipino culture. At
the rate they are going, were more Filipinos that were used to conventional
shopping are now slowly considering online shopping as well, the future of
Ecommerce is bright.
