It
was only last year when Lazada was launched in the country. It is under Rocket
Internet, which is owned by the Samwer brothers in Germany. Aside from
Philippines, it's a venture that is also launched in other South East Asia
countries. They wanted to be one of the first to start an Ecommerce company in
the region since the projection for economy growth is quite positive. They
known for launching a lot of ventures to different regions and have
successfully established their other ventures. Some countries outside South
East Asia have already enjoyed online shopping since the early years if 2000s.
For the past couple of years, Ecommerce was still growing slowly in the country.
Not having enough online audience and accompanied by low number of credit card
owner made Ecommerce suffer. Most of us only have low Internet speed. Credit
card owners are quite few in the country.
Customers who pay thru credit cards
are the most acceptable among the other online payments. Unconventionally, Cash
on Delivery or C.O.D. was introduced to the customers, allowing them to pay in
cash instead of the conventional online payments. This payment method
eliminated the idea that online shopping is for exclusive people only who
possess their own credit card. After they have arrived in the country, other
offline businesses are not entering the online scene. Now that online business
is making sense to everyone, offline business is slowly going to digital as
well. Due to challenges before in Ecommerce, successfully penetrating the local
market was almost impossible. Even if we still had decent numbers of capable
online shoppers, it still won't matter since they are not willing to. Not
everyone who can pay online the conventional way are willing to do transaction
online. It made it difficult for Ecommerce to grow as how it should be. Local
online classified ads were the ones who took over the local online scene. The
online scene was really challenging for the local online malls initially. It is
only normal for it to be that since not online business was never highly though
off. Since Ecommerce was really at an all time low when Lazada arrived, they
diverted all of their efforts in full-scale online marketing. They populated
the local online space with their online marketing execution.
Lazada made their
brand prominent within just less than one years of their online marketing. They
became one of the key players in their industry because of their all around shopping
service. Free Delivery Availability accompanies their Cash on Delivery or
C.O.D. payment method as well. They also give manufacturer's warranty that
offline malls usually give to their customers. These is they actually thrive
against their competitors as they align their service to established
traditional malls in the country. Just recently, they opened installment
payment method through BDO bank. This takes the Philippines’ Online Shopping
Mall to another level among their other existing local online shopping malls in
the Philippines.
