Internet
evolution has deeply changed how we think of doing things nowadays. It was an
innovation that truly helped make our lives convenient and easier. What started
out as a format or platform to get quick information has now become a complex
platform like doing our shopping online. Initially, the local online users
didn’t put much attention when it arrived in the country – Ecommerce. It is why
this online industry struggled to make an impact in the Philippines. But with
the change of times and the advancement of technology, shopping nowadays is
more easier since we can now do it traditionally offline or thru online.
Shoppers can be in control on when to buy, wherever they may be. Their schedules
are just very unusual compared to most people. These are the consumers who
don't have time in the morning since they work at night. They are only free
when malls are closed. They really have a hard time visiting traditional malls.
Traditional
malls are only available during weekends or holidays. Clearly, this makes them
hard for them since they are not living on a normal time shift. It's great that
they have online shopping option now at their disposal. Most offline business is
now launching it on the online platform as well. This only started to roll
since last year in the Philippines. This rise took place when Lazada arrived in
the Philippines Their arrival makes them one of the first online malls to
arrived here. They are also available in other South East Asia countries. This
online mall made a splash in the local Ecommerce market compared a couple of
years ago where online shopping didn't exist at all They made an impact on
Ecommerce that helped it grow exponentially.
Actually,
the competition is very low in the country so it only made sense for them to
launch it here. As a matter of fact, the initial problem they had lies with how
they will allow customers to visit their website. Paying online is a very
difficult for most online users that's why it hard for them to lure them on
their website. They are afraid that they may be victimizing of online identity
theft. What makes it more alarming for them is that there are only a few credit
cardholders in the country. This hampered the growth of Ecommerce in the
country.
It
doesn't mean that most local online users are not familiar with online
payments. We don't give online malls a second chance since we consider risk and
disregard reward right away. It pretty clear that we don't trust online stores
right away. We jump to conclusion that they are only there to scam people.
These two alone are enough reasons to tell that Ecommerce is really challenging
here. The Philippines’ Online Shopping Mall came up with a solution to
eliminate these two huge issues in the local Ecommerce. They came up with an
alternative payment method they called Cash on Delivery or C.O.D. Payment with them is not required to be
right away and customers can keep it up until they receive their orders.
